Jailer 2 Nears Rs 800 Crore Worldwide: Rajinikanth’s Film at Rs 790.85 Crore After a Strong Saturday
Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 is now within touching distance of a milestone no Tamil film has ever reached. The Nelson Dilipkumar action drama collected an estimated Rs 9.35 crore net in India on Saturday, October 31 — up sharply from Rs 5.50 crore on Friday — taking its worldwide gross to Rs 790.85 crore. The film now needs only about Rs 9.15 crore more to cross Rs 800 crore worldwide. All figures are trade estimates.
The breakdown shows how broad-based the run has been. Jailer 2’s India net collection now stands at approximately Rs 444.75 crore, with a domestic gross of Rs 520.35 crore, while overseas markets have contributed around Rs 270.50 crore. The domestic gross alone is a record: by crossing the roughly Rs 520 crore India gross of Rajinikanth’s own 2.0, Jailer 2 has become the No. 1 Tamil film in India as well as worldwide, completing a clean sweep of Kollywood’s biggest box-office records. It is also the first film ever to gross more than Rs 75 crore in each of the four major South Indian markets, with Tamil Nadu alone crossing Rs 200 crore gross and Kerala passing Rs 75 crore.
The film, which released on October 15, stars Rajinikanth as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian alongside Ramya Krishnan, S. J. Suryah, Vidya Balan, Yogi Babu and Mirnaa, with special appearances by Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, Jackie Shroff, Hrithik Roshan and Vijay Sethupathi. It is produced by Kalanithi Maran under Sun Pictures, with music by Anirudh Ravichander. After becoming the highest-grossing Tamil film of all time in just 11 days at Rs 710.35 crore, it has kept adding steadily through its third weekend, helped by the Diwali holiday window.
Here is the Filmverse take: the Rs 800 crore chase matters because it is no longer about one record but about the ceiling for an entire industry. Tamil cinema has never had an Rs 800 crore film, and Jailer 2 is doing it without a Hindi remake or a pan-India rebrand — a Tamil film travelling on its star, its sequel goodwill and its overseas audience. The threat is the calendar: Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana arrives on November 5 and will take premium screens everywhere, so the next few days decide whether Jailer 2 crosses the line before the biggest release of the year reshapes exhibition.
