R Madhavan Returns to Horror With Vishal Furia’s Untitled Film, Shoot to Begin in 2027
R Madhavan is set to return to the horror genre with an untitled feature film directed by Vishal Furia, officially announced on October 31. The film will be produced by Rohit Ranjan under Frostlit Production Limited, and shooting is expected to begin in early 2027. Further details, including the title, supporting cast and storyline, have not yet been announced.
Furia, known for the Chhorii franchise, the critically acclaimed Marathi film Lapachhapi and the Kajol-starrer Maa, said Madhavan was his first and only choice for the role. “Madhavan sir was always my first and only choice. I’m stoked that he has come on board and has already started getting into the world of the film. He is the true OG horror star of the cult classic Indian horror film 13B — one of my favourite films of all time,” Furia said. “Madhavan sir has years of experience as a writer, director and producer, so it’s really special to have him with us on this film. Together, we want to create something audiences have never seen before in Indian horror — the kind of fear they will feel in their bones!”
Madhavan’s horror credentials run deep. He headlined 13B: Fear Has a New Address in 2009, a cult favourite, and returned to the genre as the terrifying Vanraj in Shaitaan in 2024, directed by Vikas Bahl, reprising that character in a surprise cameo in Furia’s Maa, starring Kajol. Madhavan has also enjoyed recent box-office success with the Dhurandhar franchise, where he played intelligence officer Ajay Sanyal.
For Furia, the film marks a significant step forward in a career built on horror that is rooted, emotional and unsettling.
Here is the Filmverse take: this pairing works because both men have earned horror credibility the hard way, without relying on jump scares alone. Madhavan’s best horror work — 13B’s slow dread, Shaitaan’s smiling menace — comes from performance, not effects, and Furia’s Chhorii films built their fear around social anxieties rather than haunted houses. If they hold to Furia’s promise of fear “felt in the bones,” this could be the rare Hindi horror film that trusts its audience to be unsettled rather than startled. The long wait until the 2027 shoot is the risk: announcements this early live or die on whether the script matches the pitch.
