Indian Films Releasing in the US & Canada This Week: Aadarsha Kutumbam Leads the October 30 Weekend
For US and Canada readers, this is a Telugu-led weekend with a strong streaming bench: Aadarsha Kutumbam leads theatrically, and Netflix adds three Indian titles on October 30. Check local listings.
IN THEATRES
Aadarsha Kutumbam House No. 47 — Telugu, action comedy drama. Trivikram Srinivas directs Venkatesh as Chittibabu, with Srinidhi Shetty as Swarna, plus Nara Rohith and Nivetha Pethuraj. It opened on October 30 after North America premieres ahead of opening day. Shloka Entertainments distributes it in the US and Nikumbala Movies in Canada, with shows reported at Cinemark, AMC and Regal. It is the first film Trivikram has directed with Venkatesh in the lead, delayed twice to this Diwali-adjacent weekend. Read Filmverse’s opening-day report here.
#CULT — Telugu, slasher thriller. Vishwak Sen writes, directs and stars, with Gayatri Bhardwaj in the female lead. It opened on October 30 in select US theatres, so check local listings. Billed as India’s first authentic slasher film, its Goa-set party-turned-survival story is the weekend’s counter-programming to the family entertainer above.
STREAMING ON NETFLIX — OCTOBER 30
Akka — crime drama series. Keerthy Suresh plays Bhavani and Radhika Apte plays Rudra in 1980s Pernuru, a fictional town where a sisterhood controls the gold trade. Written and directed by Dharmaraj Shetty for YRF Entertainment, it premiered globally on Netflix on October 30, in multiple Indian languages.
Sigma — Tamil, heist action comedy. Sundeep Kishan and Faria Abdullah star in Jason Sanjay’s directorial debut, about a Chennai radio jockey drawn into a treasure-hunt underworld. After its October 2 theatrical release, it arrived on Netflix on October 30 in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada.
Meethe Mein Kya Hai — Hindi, family drama. Ritwik Bhowmik, Rohini Hattangadi and Ayesha Raza Mishra star in a Diwali gathering at the matriarch’s Lucknow home, where a surprise marriage announcement surfaces old tensions. It premiered on Netflix on October 30.
FILMVERSE TAKE
This week’s slate says something clear about the overseas market: the theatrical bet is still the family film, while streaming does the breadth work. Aadarsha Kutumbam is best placed — the week’s only wide North America theatrical footprint, a star-director reunion, and a family audience that turns out together. #CULT will live or die on word of mouth in a handful of screens. Netflix’s trio covers three diaspora moods in one day: crime saga, heist comedy and festive family drama.
If you pick one theatrical outing, make it Aadarsha Kutumbam this weekend. If you are staying in, start with Akka.
