Ramayana Gets CBFC ‘U’ Certificate With Zero Cuts; 195-Minute Runtime Revealed Ahead of November 5 Release

Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana has cleared its final pre-release hurdle in style. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has passed the mythological epic with a ‘U’ certificate — fit for unrestricted viewing by audiences of all ages — and, in a rare feat for a film of this scale, did not ask for a single cut or any audio or visual modification. The certificate was handed to the makers on October 30, just days before the film’s worldwide release on November 5.

According to Bollywood Hungama’s exclusive report, the CBFC’s Examining Committee did not seek even the routine changes that often accompany certification, such as language credits, title cards or advisory tickers. The certificate lists the Hindi version’s runtime as 195 minutes — three hours and 15 minutes — making Ramayana: Part 1 one of the longest Indian releases of the year. The film’s international rollout differs: it has secured a PG-13 rating in North America, and reports suggest the international English-dubbed cut has been trimmed by roughly 30 minutes for Western multiplexes.

The film stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita and Yash as Ravana, with Ravie Dubey as Lakshman and Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman. It is directed by Nitesh Tiwari, produced by Namit Malhotra, and features music by A.R. Rahman and Hans Zimmer. Advance bookings have already crossed Rs 17 crore gross including blocked seats, according to trade reports, and separate reports suggest Yash’s screen time as Ravana runs to around 65 minutes — though the makers have not confirmed that figure.

Here is the Filmverse take: a U certificate with zero cuts matters far beyond the censor board’s stamp. For a mythological epic arriving over the Diwali weekend, unrestricted certification means entire families — grandparents to grandchildren — can walk in together, which is precisely the audience this film is built for. The 195-minute runtime is the gamble: it asks viewers to surrender an entire evening to one story, and it only pays off if word of mouth after the first shows is strong. But with certification, advance sales and the Academy Museum premiere all falling into place, Ramayana enters its release week with no remaining pre-release question marks.
