Ramayana Day 1 Box Office: Rs 64.85 Crore Net in India as Ranbir Kapoor Epic Sets Pre-Diwali Record
Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana: Part 1 has closed its opening day with Rs 64.85 crore net in India, according to trade tracker Sacnilk, with the gross collection at Rs 77.50 crore. The Hindi version led with Rs 47.50 crore net from 20,678 shows, followed by Kannada at Rs 7.25 crore, Telugu at Rs 6 crore, Tamil at Rs 2.60 crore and Malayalam at Rs 1.50 crore, as the film played across 25,200 shows in five languages on Thursday, November 5. All figures are trade estimates.
The opening is the biggest pre-Diwali start Hindi cinema has ever seen. Bollywood Hungama, which put the Hindi opening at Rs 50–51 crore net, notes that Ramayana has broken the long-standing pre-Diwali record held by Salman Khan’s Tiger 3, which opened at Rs 44 crore on Diwali day. It also moved past the opening days of Pathaan (Rs 57 crore) and Animal (Rs 63 crore), though it finished behind Jawan (Rs 75 crore), Adipurush (Rs 86.75 crore) and Dhurandhar 2 (Rs 102 crore).
The final number also tells a subtler story. Our live tracker on Thursday had reported trade projections of Rs 90–100 crore net for the day, built on advance bookings worth Rs 130.12 crore gross, and the eventual Rs 64.85 crore net landed well short of that range. The gap between pre-sales and walk-ins is the number the trade will be watching through the weekend: the advance bookings measured intent, but the evening shows did not convert it into the record-breaking day some expected. The weekend now decides the film’s trajectory. Bollywood Hungama projects a four-day pre-Diwali weekend of around Rs 210 crore, with Saturday expected to top the opening day, and early estimates put the worldwide opening day above Rs 150 crore. The film stars Ranbir Kapoor as Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana, with music by A. R. Rahman and Hans Zimmer.
Here is the Filmverse take: Rs 64.85 crore net is a genuine record for a pre-Diwali release, and it should not be read as a disappointment — but the distance between the Rs 90–100 crore morning projection and the final figure is the honest headline. Ramayana opened like an event film and was received like a very good one. Whether it becomes a historic run now depends on the next three days: a strong Saturday and a Diwali-week surge would do it; a flat weekend would leave the film chasing its own advance-booking hype.
