Ramayana North America Box Office: $1.76 Million USA Premiere, Just Short of Bollywood Record
Ramayana: Part 1 has turned its record pre-sales into record collections in North America. Trade tracker BoxOfficeIndia24 puts the film’s USA premiere gross on Wednesday, November 4, at $1,760,685 (about Rs 16.7 crore) from 85,688 tickets across 3,000 shows, with Canada adding C$182,024 (about Rs 1.24 crore) on premiere night. The combined North America premiere total stands at Rs 18.52 crore, and with Thursday’s opening-day shows already selling, the territory total has reached Rs 26.07 crore. All figures are trade estimates, not producer figures.
That lands just short of the Bollywood record: Dhurandhar 2 holds the North American premiere mark at $2 million, and Ramayana’s roughly $1.89 million combined USA-Canada premiere — firmed up from an early $1.45 million USA figure as late shows reported — makes it the second-biggest Bollywood premiere in the territory. California led the USA across the two days with 18,629 tickets worth $380,339, AMC was the biggest US chain, and Cineplex led Canada. Pinkvilla’s final advance tally puts the USA weekend advance at $4.40 million, with overseas pre-sales of $7.625 million and a worldwide advance of Rs 143.50 crore.
As of the 6:20 pm IST update, Thursday’s opening day had added $661,683 in the USA from 34,991 tickets, C$188,357 in Canada, £260,812 in the UK and A$527,368 in Australia, taking the overseas total to Rs 39.91 crore and the worldwide gross past Rs 106.79 crore — with US evening shows still to come. The film stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana, with Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios, with Sony Pictures distributing outside India, it plays in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam, with IMAX as a primary platform. Here is the Filmverse take: the premiere figure matters because it is money already banked, not intent — 85,688 Americans bought a ticket to a three-hour-plus epic on a Wednesday night, before a single review had landed. The more important number is the $4.40 million USA weekend advance: if Friday and Saturday hold their pre-sales, Ramayana is on course for the $20 million-plus overseas opening weekend trackers projected, and the five-day Diwali window gives it a runway no Bollywood film has enjoyed in North America. The caution: scraped booking-site counts can include blocked seats, so treat the exact totals as estimates until the studios’ actuals arrive.
