Maatrubhumi Trailer Out, Release Date Confirmed: Salman Khan’s War Drama Arrives November 20
Salman Khan’s long-delayed war drama Maatrubhumi finally has a date. The trailer was unveiled at a launch event at a Mumbai multiplex on Friday afternoon, November 6, and the release date flashed on screen: Maatrubhumi arrives in cinemas on Friday, November 20, two weeks from now.
Bollywood Hungama reports the date was displayed at the launch itself, ending months of speculation over when — or whether — the film would reach theatres this year. Jio Studios will handle all-India distribution.
Passed by the Central Board of Film Certification on November 4 with a U/A 16+ certificate, the trailer runs four minutes and 43 seconds — among the longest in Indian cinema history. Directed by Apoorva Lakhia and produced by Salman Khan Films, the film stars Salman as Colonel Bikumalla Santosh Babu, who led Indian soldiers in the June 2020 Galwan Valley clash, with Chitrangda Singh as the female lead.
The road to November 20 has been anything but smooth. The makers first eyed November 13, but censor delays pushed the plan back, with November 20 and December 11 both in contention until today’s launch settled it. The film reportedly received government clearance after revisions to its dramatisation of the 2020 confrontation between Indian and Chinese troops.
The launch lands a day after a jolt to the project. As Filmverse reported this morning, defence journalists Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh, co-authors of the India’s Most Fearless series on which the film was partly based, ended their association with Maatrubhumi on November 5, saying it has evolved beyond their account of the Galwan clash. That exit puts the trailer under a sharper lens: audiences will watch whether Lakhia’s film honours the soldiers’ story or leans into spectacle.
The November 20 date matters beyond the calendar. A two-week runway is short for a film of this scale, and Maatrubhumi opens in the shadow of Ramayana: Part 1, fresh off a record opening. But Salman Khan has rarely needed a long runway, and a patriotic war drama arriving a fortnight after its trailer — its message, “May War Rest in Peace,” front and centre — is a bet that the trailer itself will do the heavy lifting. If the nearly five-minute trailer lands, the conversation changes overnight from delays and clearances to box office.
