Spider-Man: Brand New Day Beats Avengers: Endgame Outside China, Now Marvel’s Biggest Film There

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has done what once looked impossible: a solo superhero film has overtaken Avengers: Endgame at the box office. The Tom Holland-starrer has earned $2.288 billion worldwide excluding China, edging past Endgame’s $2.287 billion in the same markets, according to trade reports. It reorders Marvel’s box-office hierarchy — with a telling asterisk.

The asterisk is China. Endgame collected more than $655.6 million there, including this year’s Encore re-release, making it the second-highest-grossing Hollywood film ever in the market. Brand New Day has collected $236.7 million in China — strong for a post-COVID Hollywood release, but nearly $419 million short of Endgame’s total. That gap is the only reason Endgame still leads the overall worldwide chart. Everywhere else, Spider-Man has already won.

Brand New Day is also the highest-grossing movie of all time at the North American box office, with over $958.9 million, having passed Endgame there as well. Its worldwide total stands at $2.5 billion — the third-highest of all time — split between $958.9 million domestic and $1.56 billion international. All figures are trade estimates.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the fourth Holland-led Spider-Man film follows a forgotten Peter Parker, fighting crime full-time in a world that no longer remembers him, until mounting pressure sparks a dangerous change. It released worldwide on July 31, 2026, co-starring Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal and Mark Ruffalo.

The dominance was signalled before release: its first trailer, out on March 18, pulled 718.6 million views across platforms in 24 hours, according to WaveMetrix — the most-viewed trailer launch in history, beating Deadpool & Wolverine’s 365 million record from 2024.

What makes the comparison so striking is the scale of what Brand New Day has beaten. Endgame was the culmination of a decade of Marvel storytelling, an ensemble event uniting every major hero. Brand New Day is, by design, the opposite: a smaller, lonelier story about a hero nobody remembers. That a film built on isolation and consequence has outgrossed the biggest team-up in cinema history outside China says something about audiences in 2026 — they still turn out in record numbers, but for character and stakes, not just scale.

India has been part of the story too. The film grossed Rs 608 crore in India, the highest ever for an English-language film in the country, and it led a year in which the global box office is forecast to reach $35.7 billion — its best since 2019.
