Janhvi Kapoor Recreates Sridevi’s Iconic Nagina Look for Halloween, With Orry as Rishi Kapoor

Janhvi Kapoor gave Halloween a nostalgic Bollywood twist this year, recreating her mother Sridevi’s iconic look from the 1986 film Nagina. The actor shared a series of pictures on Instagram on October 31, paying tribute to one of Hindi cinema’s most memorable fantasy films. The recreation also featured social-media personality Orry, who stepped into Rishi Kapoor’s look, while Janhvi’s friend Vaishnav Praveen recreated Amrish Puri’s character.

Sharing the pictures, Janhvi wrote, “Happy Halloweeeeeny… had to recreate one of the most iconic movie moments everrrrr…” Explaining her choice, she added, “So much of Halloween has become about dressing up as your favourite characters and pop culture moments. Sometimes they’re spooky, sometimes they’re funny, and sometimes it’s a tribute.” She acknowledged the stars whose characters inspired the recreation, writing, “And who could possibly be more iconic than Mumma, Rishi uncle and Amrish sir!!”

The post drew reactions from across the industry, including her sister Khushi Kapoor, who commented, “You won Halloween,” along with heart-eye emojis. Shanaya Kapoor and Maheep Kapoor responded with hearts, while Kareena Kapoor Khan, Karisma Kapoor, Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, Sanya Malhotra, Ananya Panday and Zoya Akhtar were among the others who reacted.

Released in 1986 and directed by Harmesh Malhotra, Nagina featured Sridevi as Rajni, a shape-shifting serpent woman, alongside Rishi Kapoor and Amrish Puri. The film became widely remembered for Sridevi’s performance and its fantasy elements, and its song “Main Teri Dushman, Dushman Tu Mera” remains closely associated with it. Janhvi recreated not just the pink ensemble, jewellery, make-up and hairstyle, but also the film’s poster and scenes, turning the post into a full homage rather than a single costume photo. Sridevi died in February 2018 at the age of 54, months before Janhvi made her Bollywood debut with Dhadak in July 2018.

Here is the Filmverse take: what lifts this above the usual celebrity Halloween post is that it is a daughter’s tribute first and a costume second. Janhvi did not pick a trending superhero or a horror franchise; she picked the film that defines her mother’s screen legacy, and she recreated three characters from it, not just her mother’s. In a week when Alia Bhatt’s Tumbbad tribute also trended, Halloween 2026 quietly became a showcase for Indian film nostalgia — proof that the most shareable costumes are the ones with a story behind them.
