Shraddha Kapoor Reveals Why She Turned Down Films After Stree 2: Waiting for the Perfect Story
Shraddha Kapoor has explained why she went quiet after the biggest hit of her career. In an Instagram question-and-answer session on Tuesday, November 3, a fan asked her what advice she would give young girls trying to navigate their careers, and Kapoor answered with her own story. After Stree 2, she said, she was offered a lot of films and a lot of money, but she had decided she would not sign anything until she found the perfect story. Her heart told her to be patient, she said, and that is exactly what she did.
The context makes the patience striking. Stree 2, released in August 2024 and directed by Amar Kaushik, became one of the biggest Hindi hits of that year, with Kapoor alongside Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee and Aparshakti Khurana. Most stars in that position announce a slate within weeks; Kapoor announced almost nothing, and her next film is a world away from franchise comedy. At the trailer launch of Eetha in Mumbai on October 30, she said she does not think in terms of records or box-office numbers, that what matters is a good movie, and that is why she sometimes does one film in two years.
Eetha, directed by Laxman Utekar, is a biographical drama inspired by the life of Vithabai Bhau Mang Narayangaonkar, the legendary Marathi Tamasha and Lavani performer, and it stars Kapoor in the title role alongside Randeep Hooda, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Siddharth Jadhav, Ishtiyak Khan and Anant Joshi. Produced by Dinesh Vijan, Utekar and Karishma Sharma under Maddock Films and Kathputli Creations, with music by Ajay-Atul, the film releases in theatres on December 4, 2026. Here is the Filmverse take: Kapoor’s answer is interesting precisely because it refuses the usual star logic, where a hit must be cashed in immediately before the heat fades. She is betting that selectivity itself is a brand — that audiences will trust an actress who says no more than one who says yes to everything. It is a gamble with a clear deadline: Eetha arrives on December 4, and if a rooted, performance-led biopic lands, the two-year wait becomes part of the legend; if it does not, the same wait will be read as a star letting momentum slip. Either way, her honesty about turning down money to wait for a story is rarer in this industry than the patience itself.
