Ramayana World Premiere: Ranbir Kapoor, Yash’s Epic Heads to Los Angeles’ Academy Museum on October 27

Ranbir Kapoor and Yash’s Ramayana: Rise of Legend is set for its world premiere on the evening of October 27, 2026, at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles — early in the morning of October 28 for viewers in India. The invite-only screening will take place at the museum’s David Geffen Theatre, in 3D, before a full-capacity audience of 945 guests, weeks before the film reaches cinemas worldwide.

The guest list is designed to introduce the Indian epic to a global audience. Organisers say Hollywood personalities, filmmakers, international journalists and other members of the film fraternity are expected to attend. With the premiere falling in the run-up to Diwali, the makers are also carrying a festive touch to Los Angeles: invitees have been asked to turn up in traditional Indian festive wear for the red carpet.

The choice of venue carries significance for the film’s crew. Hans Zimmer and A. R. Rahman, both Oscar-winning composers, are working together for the first time on this project, while the visual effects come from DNEG, which has won the Academy Award for visual effects eight times. Ramayana is produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios, in collaboration with DNEG and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations, and directed by Nitesh Tiwari. Sony Pictures will oversee distribution outside India.

In the film, Ranbir Kapoor plays Ram, Sai Pallavi plays Sita and Yash plays Ravana, with Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman. Conceived as a two-part saga, the first instalment is due in theatres worldwide on November 5, 2026, in Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, Tamil and Malayalam, along with an IMAX release, while the second part follows during Diwali 2027.

Here is the Filmverse take: premiering at the Academy Museum is a statement of intent, not just a party. Most Indian blockbusters premiere in Mumbai or Hyderabad; taking Ramayana to the home of the Oscars, in 3D, tells international buyers and awards-season voters that this is meant to be judged as world cinema rather than as a regional curiosity. The risk is that a Los Angeles premiere raises expectations the film must then meet on November 5, when advance bookings and first-day word of mouth will decide whether the global positioning pays off. But as a curtain-raiser, few Indian films have ever aimed this high.
