Jailer 2 Crosses Rs 800 Crore Worldwide: Rajinikanth’s Film Becomes the First Tamil Film to Enter the 800-Crore Club

Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 has crossed Rs 800 crore worldwide, becoming the first Tamil film in history to enter the 800-crore club. The Nelson Dilipkumar directorial collected an estimated Rs 11.20 crore net in India on Day 18 (Sunday, November 1), up 15.5 per cent on Saturday’s Rs 9.70 crore net, taking its worldwide gross to Rs 807.25 crore. All figures are trade estimates.

The breakdown shows how broad-based the run has been. Jailer 2’s India net collection now stands at approximately Rs 456.30 crore, with a domestic gross of Rs 533.75 crore, while overseas markets have contributed around Rs 273.50 crore, roughly 34 per cent of the worldwide total. The Tamil version remains the biggest contributor at Rs 316.50 crore net in India, followed by Telugu at Rs 84.15 crore, Hindi at Rs 48.05 crore and Kannada at Rs 7.60 crore. The film had already made history in India earlier in its run, when its domestic gross passed the roughly Rs 520 crore India gross of Rajinikanth’s own 2.0 to become the highest-grossing Tamil film ever at the Indian box office.

The sequel, which released on October 15, stars Rajinikanth as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian alongside Ramya Krishnan, S. J. Suryah, Vidya Balan, Yogi Babu and Mirnaa, with special appearances by Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, Jackie Shroff, Hrithik Roshan and Vijay Sethupathi. Produced by Sun Pictures, it became the highest-grossing Tamil film of all time in just 11 days at Rs 710.35 crore, and has kept adding steadily through its third weekend, helped by the festive holiday window. Read our report from yesterday, when the film stood at Rs 790.85 crore, here: https://filmverse.in/jailer-2-nears-800-crore-worldwide-790-85-crore-saturday/

Here is the Filmverse take: the Rs 800 crore mark matters because it resets the ceiling for an entire industry. Tamil cinema has never had a film at this level, and Jailer 2 has done it without a Hindi remake or a pan-India rebrand, travelling on its star, its sequel goodwill and its overseas audience. The threat now is the calendar: Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana arrives on November 5 and will take premium screens everywhere, so the coming weekdays will decide how far beyond Rs 800 crore this run can go.
