Scene Overseas Box Office: $3.6 Million in 3 Days as Gulf Leads Suriya Film Towards Rs 100 Crore
Suriya’s Scene is doing its biggest business overseas. Pinkvilla reports the film has collected $3.60 million (about Rs 34 crore) overseas in its first three days, taking the worldwide gross to Rs 80 crore — with the Rs 100 crore mark expected by the end of Sunday. All figures are trade estimates, not producer figures.
The Gulf is leading the overseas charge. BoxOfficeIndia24’s two-day breakdown puts overseas at Rs 28.64 crore, with the Gulf contributing Rs 11.45 crore — 40 per cent of the total — ahead of the United States at $593,492 (about Rs 5.57 crore) and Australia and New Zealand at Rs 1.75 crore. On day one alone, overseas took Rs 17.99 crore from 21 countries, with the Gulf at Rs 7.24 crore. In North America it sold 27,284 tickets across 916 shows on day one: $266,611 in the USA, C$144,526 in Canada.
The overseas strength is carrying a film that is also holding well at home. Scene opened on Friday, November 6, with Rs 19.15 crore net in India, added Rs 20.35 crore on Saturday, and crossed Rs 50 crore net on its third day — a Sunday spent sharing the Diwali weekend with the Ramayana juggernaut. The film is Jithu Madhavan’s Tamil debut, starring Suriya with Nazriya Nazim and Naslen; the Tamil version has driven the domestic start. Trade reports also say Netflix has bought the digital rights for a reported Rs 88 crore, with the film expected on the platform in early December — no date officially confirmed, and US and Canada availability not yet announced.
Here is the Filmverse take: Scene’s overseas pattern is the mirror image of Ramayana’s. Where the epic is a North America story, Scene is a Gulf story — the Tamil diaspora in the UAE and the wider Gulf has made this the film’s second home market, and the 40 per cent Gulf share of overseas is unusually high even by Tamil-cinema standards. That matters: the Gulf audience turns out early, and a strong Gulf opening weekend has long been the best early signal for a Tamil film’s overseas legs. With Rs 100 crore worldwide in sight on day three, Scene has cleared the bar that matters for a mid-budget Diwali release — it is a success; the question is how far the Gulf-led overseas run carries it.
