Scene Day 2 Box Office: Suriya Film Crosses Rs 81 Crore Worldwide, Trails Karuppu After Two Days
Suriya’s Diwali entertainer Scene is holding up. Final trade estimates put the film’s second-day collection at Rs 20.25 crore net in India, a small rise over its Rs 19.15 crore opening day, taking the two-day India net total to Rs 39.40 crore and the worldwide gross to Rs 81.50 crore.
According to Sacnilk, Tamil contributed Rs 16.50 crore on Saturday and Telugu Rs 3.75 crore, across 5,687 shows at 62.5 per cent occupancy. The Day 2 figure is a 5.7 per cent rise over Day 1, a healthy hold for a film sharing the Diwali weekend with the Ramayana juggernaut. BoxOfficeIndia24’s confirmed tally is close, at Rs 20.15 crore for Day 2 and Rs 38.15 crore in total, while some other trackers put the day slightly lower at around Rs 18.46 crore — a reminder that early trade figures vary and should be read as estimates.
The worldwide picture is the more impressive one. Overseas markets added Rs 18 crore on Saturday, taking the overseas total to Rs 35.75 crore, and the two-day worldwide gross to Rs 81.50 crore. For a Tamil action-comedy opening against the biggest Hindi release of the year, that is a solid foundation, and the Sunday advance booking of Rs 14.09 crore gross, with more than 7.8 lakh tickets sold across 6,234 shows, points to another strong day.
The inevitable comparison is with Suriya’s own recent history. His previous blockbuster Karuppu collected Rs 24.15 crore on its second day and Rs 39.65 crore in two days, on its way to a Rs 310.12 crore lifetime total. Scene trails that pace by only a whisker, while it has already moved past Vishwanath & Sons, which stood at Rs 37.60 crore at the same point. The gap to Karuppu is small enough that a big Sunday could close it entirely.
Written and directed by Jithu Madhavan and produced by Suriya and Jyothika’s 2D Entertainment with Zhagaram Studios, Scene stars Suriya alongside Nazriya Nazim, Naslen, Anandaraj and Lal. The film has benefited from positive word of mouth in Tamil Nadu, where it is dominating its home turf even as Ramayana sweeps the Hindi markets. The real test now is Sunday: if Scene can match its Saturday number, it will enter its first week with real momentum and a genuine shot at challenging Karuppu’s lifetime mark.
