Jailer 2 Box Office Day 11: Rajinikanth’s Film Becomes Highest-Grossing Tamil Film Ever at Rs 710.35 Crore

Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 has made Tamil cinema history. The action-comedy sequel, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, has grossed Rs 710.35 crore worldwide by the end of its eleventh day in theatres, becoming the highest-grossing Tamil film of all time. The milestone was reached on Sunday, October 25, just ten days after the film’s global release on October 15, and it dethrones Shankar’s 2018 epic 2.0, which previously held the record with a worldwide collection of around Rs 691 crore.

The day 11 numbers show a film still drawing crowds in every market. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, reported by LatestLY, Jailer 2 collected an estimated Rs 17.35 crore from Tamil shows, Rs 4.50 crore from Telugu, Rs 3.15 crore from Hindi and Rs 0.70 crore from Kannada on day 11 alone, taking its total India net collection to Rs 398.70 crore. Overseas markets added a further Rs 10 crore on the day, pushing the overseas total to Rs 243.50 crore. A separate Sacnilk analysis puts the film’s gross outside Tamil Nadu at Rs 236.65 crore in 11 days — a figure that underlines how much of this record has been built beyond the film’s home market.

The record also extends to ticket sales. Jailer 2 has already become the highest-selling Tamil film on BookMyShow, passing the lifetime ticket sales of the original Jailer in just 10 days, with approximately 92.2 lakh cumulative ticket sales on the platform. The updated all-time Tamil list now reads: Jailer 2 at Rs 710.35 crore, followed by 2.0 at Rs 691 crore, Leo at Rs 605.90 crore, the original Jailer at Rs 604.75 crore, and Coolie at Rs 518 crore.

The film’s ensemble has been central to its pull. Rajinikanth returns as the iconic Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, alongside Ramya Krishnan, S. J. Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Vidya Balan, Yogi Babu, Mirnaa and Rithvik, with special cameo appearances by Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar and Jackie Shroff. Produced by Kalanithi Maran under Sun Pictures, with music by Anirudh Ravichander, cinematography by Vijay Kartik Kannan and editing by R. Nirmal, the film picks up three months after the events of the 2023 original. Fans are now watching for its digital premiere, tentatively reported for November 12 on Netflix, though neither the producers nor the platform has officially confirmed that date.

Here is the Filmverse take: what makes this record different from a routine box-office milestone is where the money came from. A Tamil film breaking its own industry’s all-time record is one thing; doing it with more than Rs 236 crore gross from outside Tamil Nadu, and with a Hindi version that held its own in a weekend crowded with Hindi releases, is another. That is the Rajinikanth effect at 75 — not just a star opening a film, but a star whose films still travel across languages without needing a Hindi remake or a pan-India rebrand. The question now is not whether Jailer 2 will add to its total, but how far past Rs 750 crore it can go before the November 5 arrival of Ramayana reshapes every screen in the country.
