Jailer 2 North America Box Office: $7.7 Million in 18 Days, the First Tamil Film Past $7.5 Million
Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 has added another overseas record to a run that has already rewritten Tamil cinema’s history books. Trade reports published on November 3 put the film’s North America gross at $7.7 million (about Rs 65.8 crore) after 18 days, making it the first Tamil film ever to cross $7.5 million in the United States and Canada. An earlier checkpoint had it at $7.59 million after 16 days, after a third Friday of $90,000 that more than tripled its third Thursday. All figures are trade estimates.
The milestone sits on top of a breakeven already cleared with room to spare. Trade trackers had set Jailer 2’s North America breakeven at $6.5 million (about Rs 61.69 crore), so the film is now more than $1 million past that line in the territory, with the $8 million mark the next target. North America has been the engine of a huge overseas run: the film has crossed $27 million overseas overall, entering the club of only six South Indian films to do so, with North America contributing roughly 27 per cent of that total — about $7.23 million at the 12-day mark — alongside more than $8 million from the Middle East.
Worldwide, the film crossed Rs 816.90 crore after 20 days, as reported here.
Jailer 2 is directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Kalanithi Maran under Sun Pictures, with music by Anirudh Ravichander. Rajinikanth returns as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian alongside Ramya Krishnan, S. J. Suryah, Vidya Balan, Yogi Babu and Mirnaa, with special appearances by Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, Jackie Shroff, Hrithik Roshan and Vijay Sethupathi. The film released in theatres on October 15 and became the first Tamil film ever to cross Rs 800 crore worldwide.
Here is the Filmverse take: for Tamil audiences in the US and Canada, this number is the one that will outlast the daily updates. A $7.5 million Tamil grosser in North America was unthinkable a decade ago, and Jailer 2 did not just reach it — it passed its own predecessor Jailer ($7.25 million) to become Kollywood’s biggest North American grosser outright, then kept going. The timing matters too: with Ramayana arriving on November 5 and claiming premium screens everywhere, Jailer 2’s North America run is now about holding on rather than growing, but the record is already banked. The $8 million question is a bonus; the history is done.
