Bhumi Pednekar Reunites With Akshay Kumar for Priyadarshan’s 99th Film, a 1970s-Set Comedy

Bhumi Pednekar is set to reunite with Akshay Kumar for an upcoming comedy directed by Priyadarshan. Bollywood Hungama reported on October 29, 2026 that Pednekar has been signed as the leading lady of the film, with Priyadarshan himself confirming her casting to HT City. The project will mark the third collaboration between Pednekar and Kumar, and it comes four years after the duo was last seen together in Raksha Bandhan.

The film is Priyadarshan’s 99th as a director, and it is expected to go on floors in the last week of November 2026. It is reportedly set in the 1970s, with Kumar playing a tiger hunter, though plot details are under wraps. Earlier reports had suggested the film could weave in elements related to wildlife conservation alongside comedy and thriller elements, though the makers have not revealed detailed plot information yet. The film is being produced by Ramesh Taurani, and reports have also suggested that Annu Kapoor and Rajpal Yadav could be part of the cast, although further details about their roles have not been officially disclosed.

Pednekar and Kumar’s pairing has history behind it. They first shared the screen in Toilet: Ek Prem Katha in 2017, a social drama that became one of the biggest hits of that year, and followed it with Raksha Bandhan in 2022. Both films leaned on the actors’ easy, middle-India chemistry rather than star gloss, and both were directed by filmmakers with a strong sense of small-town texture. Priyadarshan remains one of Hindi cinema’s most prolific comedy directors, from Hera Pheri to Bhool Bhulaiyaa.

Here is the Filmverse take: this reunion matters less as casting news and more as a signal about where Kumar’s career is heading. After a run of large-scale action films, a period comedy with Priyadarshan — a director built on ensemble chaos and timing rather than heroics — suggests a deliberate return to the comic register that made Kumar a household name. For Pednekar, it is equally telling: her recent choices have leaned toward performance-led streaming and independent work, and a mainstream comedy opposite Kumar puts her back in front of the family audience that first embraced her. If the 1970s setting is used for more than costume and colour — if the tiger-hunter premise gives the comedy a real spine — this could be the rare reunion that feels like a fresh start rather than nostalgia.
