Mohanlal’s L 368 to Launch With Pooja in Kochi on October 30

Mohanlal’s next film with director Anoop Sathyan has its launch date. The project, tentatively titled L 368, will be launched in Kochi with a traditional pooja ceremony on October 30, Cinema Express reported on October 28, 2026. The yet-to-be-titled film marks Anoop’s second directorial venture, following his 2020 romantic comedy Varane Avashyamund, which starred Dulquer Salmaan, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Suresh Gopi and Shobana.

Announced in August, L 368 is produced by Antony Perumbavoor of Aashirvad Cinemas in association with Binu George Alexander. Anoop has earlier described the film as a quirky comedy action thriller with an emotional core, a deliberate departure from the style associated with his father and veteran filmmaker Sathyan Anthikad. Mukesh has also joined the cast, reuniting with Mohanlal in a film that aims to explore a different side of their much-loved comic chemistry.

The technical crew underlines the film’s ambitions. It includes Bramayugam cinematographer Shehnad Jalal, Aadujeevitham production designer Prashanth Madhav and Thudarum composer Jakes Bejoy, with Anoop himself handling the writing and direction alongside the editing. That combination — a cinematographer known for atmospheric period work, a production designer from one of Malayalam cinema’s most physically demanding recent films, and a composer fresh from a major Mohanlal success — suggests a film that wants to look and feel bigger than its comedy label implies.

The launch comes in the middle of a crowded Mohanlal slate. He will next be seen in Athimanoharam, which reunites him with Thudarum director Tharun Moorthy and Rasathanthram co-star Meera Jasmine. That police procedural drama is set to hit theatres worldwide on December 24 as a Christmas release. His upcoming slate also includes Meppadiyan director Vishnu Mohan’s Operation Ganga, Dileesh Pothan’s Nedumkandam Miracle and 2018: Everyone is a Hero filmmaker Jude Anthany Joseph’s next, among other projects with his regular collaborators Sathyan Anthikad, Priyadarshan and Jeethu Joseph.

Here is the Filmverse take: the most interesting thing about L 368 is not the pooja date but the pairing it formalises. Anoop Sathyan spent his debut proving he could make a gentle, modern romantic comedy; now he is asking Malayalam cinema’s biggest star to carry a quirky action thriller with an emotional centre. That is a very different test from his father Sathyan Anthikad’s warm, rooted cinema. If Anoop keeps the quirk without losing the emotion, and lets Mukesh and Mohanlal’s comic timing do the heavy lifting, L 368 could give him an identity beyond his surname.
