King: Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone to Shoot Grand Song in Mumbai from October 26

Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone are set to reunite on set this week for one of the biggest remaining pieces of King. According to a report by Variety India, cited by Bollywood Hungama, the two stars will shoot a grand song sequence for the film in Mumbai from October 26, with choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant overseeing the number. The schedule is expected to run for about a week, and preparations are already underway.

The change of plan is notable. Earlier reports had suggested the team might travel to South Africa for the sequence, but the latest update says the makers have decided to film it in Mumbai instead. The song is expected to feature the film’s cast and to be staged on a large scale.

For Merchant, the schedule continues one of Hindi cinema’s longest choreographer-star associations: the King song will mark her eighth collaboration with Shah Rukh Khan, following work together on films including Jawan. For Deepika, the schedule also marks her return to the King sets after welcoming her second daughter, Devi Padukone Singh, with husband Ranveer Singh.

King will be the sixth on-screen collaboration between Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, following Om Shanti Om, Chennai Express, Happy New Year, Pathaan and Jawan. Directed and co-written by Anand, the action entertainer also stars Suhana Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Rani Mukerji, Jaideep Ahlawat, Arshad Warsi and Raghav Juyal, with Abhay Verma also associated with the project. Backed by Red Chillies Entertainment and Marflix Pictures, the film is slated to release in cinemas this Christmas, on December 24, 2026.

Here is the Filmverse take: a grand song this late in production is rarely just a song — it is usually the film’s emotional showpiece, the sequence the trailer will return to and the one audiences will hum on the way out. That this one reunites Hindi cinema’s most bankable modern pairing, under a choreographer who knows Shah Rukh Khan’s screen rhythm better than almost anyone, suggests the makers are saving something big for the final stretch. Shooting in Mumbai, not abroad, also keeps the Christmas date protected, and with a new poster reportedly due on November 2, the campaign is shifting from whispers to full volume.
