Jailer 2 Becomes the Highest-Selling Tamil Film Ever on BookMyShow as Second Saturday Jumps 66%

Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 has added a record that no daily collection figure can capture: it is now the highest-selling Tamil film of all time on BookMyShow. According to ticket-sales tracking reported by Sacnilk, the Nelson Dilipkumar sequel has sold 92.2 lakh tickets on the platform, edging past the original Jailer (2023), which finished its run at 92.1 lakh. Vijay’s Leo (2023) sits a long way back in third place with 73 lakh tickets, while Rajinikanth’s own Coolie (2025) follows with 60.9 lakh.

The record arrived on the back of a roaring second Saturday. After a second Friday of ₹14.50 crore nett, Jailer 2 jumped 66.6% on Saturday, October 24, collecting ₹24.15 crore nett in India. The surge was visible on BookMyShow: between 6 AM and 1 PM on Saturday, the film sold 1,15,990 tickets on the platform, up 40.6% on the 82,470 sold in the same window on Friday. The noon-to-1 PM hour alone jumped 36.9%. Advance bookings for the second Saturday had already pointed this way, reaching ₹11.96 crore gross including blocked seats, or ₹10.33 crore excluding them.

The worldwide picture is just as striking. Trade reports put the film’s worldwide gross at around ₹666.30 crore after its second Saturday, with overseas collections contributing roughly ₹229.50 crore. Trade watchers have noted that the film is on course to become the highest-grossing Kollywood film of all time, overtaking 2.0, if the second weekend holds.

Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Sun Pictures, Jailer 2 brings back Rajinikanth as retired jailer Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, with Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, Jackie Shroff, Vidya Balan, S. J. Suryah and Mithun Chakraborty in key roles. It released worldwide on October 15 in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Kannada.

Here is the Filmverse take: ticket-count records matter more than they first appear, because they measure people, not just rupees. A gross total can be lifted by premium pricing and IMAX screens, but 92.2 lakh individual BookMyShow bookings means 92.2 lakh decisions to leave home for this film — and beating the first Jailer in just ten days, rather than across a full run, shows the sequel did not merely inherit its predecessor’s audience, it expanded it. The second-Saturday jump is the other half of the story: after a soft second Friday, a 66% recovery says the film’s word of mouth is doing the work that opening-weekend hype no longer can. If Sunday holds anywhere near Saturday, the “highest-grossing Tamil film ever” conversation stops being a projection and becomes a countdown.
