Udta Teer Day 1 Box Office: 41,750 Tickets Sold in Advance, Eyes Ayushmann Khurrana’s Top-3 Post-COVID Opener

Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan’s spy comedy Udta Teer stormed into cinemas today, October 23, on what is one of the most crowded Hindi release days of the year — not one or two, but over half a dozen Hindi films arrived in theatres today. Of all of them, only Udta Teer managed to generate any real awareness of its release, riding on its engaging trailers and the Dharma Productions push behind it.

According to the final day-1 advance booking update reported by trade tracker Koimoi, Udta Teer sold 41,750 tickets (excluding blocked seats) before the first show went live. In collection terms, that translates to Rs 1.12 crore gross at the Indian box office through opening-day pre-sales — roughly Rs 95 lakh net. The film has secured a decent showcasing with 6,678 shows across India, though the opening-day show count has been dented by the sheer number of competing releases plus holdovers like Coolie and Drishyam 3: The Conclusion. The average ticket price of around Rs 240 keeps it affordable for family audiences.

Trade prediction is cautiously optimistic: Udta Teer is expected to score between Rs 3.5 and Rs 4.5 crore net on day 1. The film is not an advance-booking-friendly title by genre — spy comedies live and die on word-of-mouth — so the real battle will be fought through walk-in audiences and over-the-counter sales. With early reactions reported to be positive, the film stands a chance of entering Ayushmann Khurrana’s top-3 post-COVID openers.

Filmverse take: The advance-booking number is modest in absolute terms, but context matters. Udta Teer was moved from its original October 9 date to dodge Drishyam 3‘s tsunami, and it still walked into a six-film traffic jam — a Rs 1.12 crore pre-sale in that chaos suggests genuine curiosity rather than manufactured hype. For Ayushmann, whose recent theatrical run has been patchy, this is the first clean test of his crowd-pulling power in a big-studio comedy since the pandemic era. If the positive early word converts into evening walk-ins, the day-1 figure could beat the trade’s upper estimate — and Dharma will know within 48 hours whether it has a sleeper or a struggler.

As Filmverse reported this morning, Udta Teer also earned a 4-star first review, with the mistaken-identity premise landing well with early viewers:
