Jailer 2 Hindi Box Office: Rajinikanth’s Sequel Passes the Monday Test, Nears Rs 20 Crore Without National Chains

Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 is turning its Hindi release into one of the quiet success stories of the Dussehra box-office season. The film held remarkably well on its first Monday, collecting Rs 3 to 3.25 crore nett in Hindi — almost matching its opening-day figure — and taking its cumulative Hindi total to Rs 18.65 crore nett, according to Pinkvilla’s trade tracking published October 20.

The day-wise Hindi run shows a healthy upward trajectory through the extended weekend: Rs 3.15 crore on Day 1, Rs 3 crore on Day 2, Rs 4.25 crore on Day 3 and Rs 5.25 crore on Day 4, for a four-day total of Rs 15.65 crore nett. With the Dussehra holiday on Tuesday expected to push collections past Rs 5 crore for the day, the Hindi version is heading toward a first-week finish of Rs 27 to 29 crore.

What makes these numbers genuinely impressive is the handicap the film is playing with: Jailer 2 has not been released in the national cinema chains — PVR INOX and Cinepolis are both out of the picture. Trade watchers estimate that a full-fledged release would have made the opening-week figure 30 to 50 per cent higher. Even so, the sequel has already collected more than double the lifetime Hindi total of the original Jailer, which managed around Rs 7.5 crore nett.

The wider picture is even bigger. Jailer 2 closed its four-day extended weekend at approximately Rs 224 crore gross in India — the third-highest ever for a Kollywood film — and crossed Rs 400 crore worldwide in its first weekend itself, per trade estimates. Sunday’s Rs 61.75 crore gross in India was higher than its Thursday opening, a pattern that almost never happens for big South Indian films and signals exceptional audience response.

Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the action drama picks up three months after the first instalment, with Muthuvel Pandian secretly infiltrating a dangerous idol-trade network. With no major Hindi competition until Ramayana arrives, the film’s Hindi run has clear road ahead.

Note: All box-office figures are trade estimates and may be revised as official data comes in.
