Nayyi Navelli Box Office: Yami Gautam’s Horror-Comedy Nets a Decent Rs 11 Crore in Opening Weekend
Yami Gautam Dhar’s Nayyi Navelli has crossed the Rs 10 crore mark in its opening weekend, giving the horror-comedy a decent — if not spectacular — start at the Indian box office. The film collected around Rs 4 crore nett on Day 3, taking its three-day total to approximately Rs 11 crore nett, according to Pinkvilla’s trade tracking published October 19.
The day-wise trend tells a story of slow-burn growth rather than an explosive start. The film opened with Rs 3 crore on Friday, rose to around Rs 4 crore on Saturday, and held that level on Sunday. In a Dussehra weekend crowded with heavyweights — Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2, Rajkummar Rao’s Prahaar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam and Vijay Deverakonda’s Ranabaali — simply holding its ground counts as a respectable result for a female-led genre film.
There is a silver lining for Yami Gautam: Nayyi Navelli has already performed better in its opening weekend than her previous release, Haq. The actress, fresh off her Best Actress win at the National Film Awards, headlines the film as Mohini, a picture-perfect new bride whose arrival turns a chaotic Meerut household upside down — until her brother-in-law starts suspecting that the family’s blessing-in-disguise might be a daayan-in-disguise.
Directed by Balaji Mohan and produced by Aanand L. Rai and Himanshu Sharma’s Colour Yellow in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios, with music by G.V. Prakash Kumar, the film rides the ongoing horror-comedy boom with a female-led twist — a welcome expansion of a genre whose economics (modest budgets, massive returns) have made it Bollywood’s most bankable trend.
The road ahead is less certain. Word of mouth has been mixed, and as with every mid-size release, the weekday hold will decide whether Nayyi Navelli settles into a steady run or fades quickly. Horror-comedies have repeatedly shown strong legs when audiences embrace them — the film’s fate now rests with the Monday-to-Thursday audience.
