Prahaar Day 2 Box Office: Rajkummar Rao’s Legal Drama Grows 34% on Saturday

Rajkummar Rao’s courtroom drama Prahaar – The Ujjwal Nikam Story found its audience on Saturday, collecting ₹3.15 crore nett in India on day 2 — a 34% jump over its ₹2.35 crore opening-day nett, according to trade estimates compiled by Sacnilk and reported by 7Globe.

With the Saturday growth, the film’s cumulative India nett has reached ₹5.50 crore, while the worldwide gross stands at ₹7.98 crore. The upward trajectory is a positive early signal for the film, which opened to mixed-to-positive reviews from critics and now needs strong word of mouth to build through the weekend.

Directed by Avinash Arun, Prahaar traces the career of celebrated public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam, whose four-decade career included landmark trials in some of India’s most defining criminal cases. The film revisits the legal battles surrounding the 1993 Bombay bombings and the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, centring on the pursuit of justice that followed those dark chapters.

Rajkummar Rao plays Nikam with what critics have described as dogged sincerity and intense focus, anchoring the courtroom sequences. The ensemble includes Wamiqa Gabbi, Jaideep Ahlawat, Sikandar Kher, Lalit Prabhakar as Ajmal Kasab, Ashish Vidyarthi, Ritvik Sahore and Ajinkya Deo. The film is produced by Dinesh Vijan for Maddock Films, with story, screenplay and dialogues by Sumit Roy, music by Vishal Mishra and Emiway Bantai, and lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya. It released theatrically on October 16, 2026, with a runtime of 140 minutes.

Nikam’s real-life career lends the film its weight. As a special public prosecutor over four decades, he handled several of independent India’s most consequential trials, and the film frames his legal battles as a study in persistence — building cases piece by piece in the glare of national trauma. That procedural focus is what early reviews have singled out, with several critics noting the performances and courtroom writing as the film’s strongest suits, even where the overall verdict has been mixed.

Prahaar is competing in a packed release window against Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 and Vijay Deverakonda’s Ranabaali, so its Saturday growth — bucking the softer trend of several rival releases — will be watched closely by the trade on Sunday. All figures cited here are trade estimates and may differ from the makers’ official numbers.
