Neha Sharma Warns of Legal Action Over AI Deepfakes: “Take It Down Now”
Actress Neha Sharma has issued a stern public warning against the misuse of her face and likeness in AI-generated content, declaring that she will take legal action against anyone creating, posting or circulating such material without her consent.
In a post shared on her official X handle (@Officialneha) on Saturday, October 17, Sharma wrote: “Anyone using my face or likeness to create AI-generated videos or images without my consent is hereby warned to STOP IMMEDIATELY.” She demanded that all such content already posted be taken down and asked that no further AI-generated videos or images using her identity be created, edited or circulated.
“Using my face in this manner to misrepresent me or malign my reputation is completely unacceptable. I DO NOT CONSENT TO THE UNAUTHORIZED USE OF MY FACE OR LIKENESS,” she added.
The Crook and Tum Bin 2 actress did not stop at a request. In a direct threat of legal consequences, she wrote: “Consider this a formal warning: I WILL TAKE LEGAL ACTION AGAINST EVERY INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBLE FOR CREATING, POSTING, OR CIRCULATING SUCH CONTENT. No one should assume that hiding behind a fake account or the use of AI will protect them from accountability. TAKE IT DOWN NOW. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.”
Sharma’s warning arrives amid growing alarm in the film industry over AI-generated deepfakes and the unauthorised use of celebrity images and voices. In recent months, several members of the film fraternity — including Akshay Kumar, Varun Dhawan, Anil Kapoor, Shilpa Shetty, Preity Zinta, Kartik Aaryan, Mrunal Thakur and Suniel Shetty — have approached courts to protect their identity, image and personality rights from AI-driven misuse.
On the professional front, Sharma is gearing up for the release of her upcoming Punjabi comedy-drama Sanjog, directed by Harish Gargi and co-starring Jassie Gill and Happy Raikoti. The film is slated to release in theatres on November 27.
