Maatrubhumi Release Date Changed: Salman Khan Announces December 4, Not November 20

The date on the screen was wrong. At the Maatrubhumi trailer launch in Mumbai on Friday, the release date flashed up as November 20 — and then the team hid it. Salman Khan announced the real date himself: December 4, 2026.

The reason is refreshingly honest. Salman told the launch audience, “Yes, we put the tape (on the November 20 mention) as our VFX is not yet done. We thought we’d show you the garma-garam trailer here. But our VFX company had to face a little bit of (delay). So, we are showing the trailer only to you guys. On social media and YouTube, we’ll upload it tomorrow, the day after or after that” — the trailer, nearly five minutes long, was screened only for the people in the room.

It was an unusually candid evening from the star. Asked whether he had feared the film would never release, Salman confessed, “Yes, I got this thought several times. There were a lot of ups and downs. Our film is based on Galwan Valley soldiers. Jo takleefon se woh guzre hain, mujhe lag raha hain ki hum bhi same takleefon se guzre hain yeh film mein. Even financially.” He said the shoot was punishing in the cold, and the soldiers’ story deserved to reach screens: “I thought that for them, the film should be released. 100%, it’s a very beautiful story. It’s a noble film.”

There was relief in the room too. The film has been passed by the Central Board of Film Certification without any cuts, and Salman thanked the censor board and the government ministries, saying a wrong narrative had built up around the film but “when the censor board and all the agencies saw it, they didn’t feel that anything was wrong with the film.” The makers had tried for August 15 and January 26, he said, before deciding a patriotic film that is also a love story “can release at any given point of time.”

The December 4 date changes the maths: a two-week runway becomes four, which the unfinished VFX clearly needs — but it also puts Maatrubhumi into a direct clash with Eetha. The honest admission buys goodwill; the extra fortnight now has to buy a finished film. Maatrubhumi, directed by Apoorva Lakhia and produced by Salman Khan Films, stars Salman as Colonel Bikumalla Santosh Babu of the June 2020 Galwan Valley clash, with Chitrangda Singh as the female lead. It releases on December 4, 2026.
