Imran Khan Asked to Leave India by October 28 After Joining Anti-CEC Protest

In a dramatic turn that has gripped Bollywood and the headlines alike, actor Imran Khan has reportedly been directed by Mumbai’s Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) to leave India by October 28, following his participation in a protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on October 10.

The protest, organised by the Cockroach Janta Party at August Kranti Maidan in Mumbai Central, demanded the CEC’s resignation over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Khan, a US citizen and OCI cardholder and the nephew of superstar Aamir Khan, joined the demonstration and was briefly detained by police that day.

The action followed a complaint by BJP leader Kirit Somaiya, who approached the Mumbai Police seeking verification of Khan’s citizenship and questioned whether a foreign national holding a US passport and an OCI card should join a political agitation. A Mumbai Police official confirmed that the FRRO served the notice on the actor, who lives in Mumbai’s Khar area, and said further administrative procedures are underway.

Officials cited provisions under which foreign nationals are barred from participating in political protests on Indian soil. On the day of the protest, Khan had posted a photo of himself flashing a victory sign from what appeared to be a police van, writing, “Apparently I’m going for a drive.”

Imran Khan, best known for Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na and Delhi Belly, retired from acting in 2015. He has not publicly responded to the notice yet.
