Hrithik Roshan Makes History as First Indian Actor at LACMA Art + Film Gala in Los Angeles

Hrithik Roshan has made a piece of Hollywood history. The Bollywood star attended the 15th edition of the LACMA Art + Film Gala in Los Angeles on the evening of Friday, November 7 — becoming the first mainstream Indian actor ever invited to the annual fundraiser at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. The news was reported by ANI and Bollywood Hungama on Sunday.

The gala, presented by Gucci and co-chaired by Leonardo DiCaprio and entrepreneur Eva Chow, honoured filmmaker Denis Villeneuve — the director of Dune — and artist Vija Celmins for their contributions to cinema and the visual arts. Hrithik was hosted at the event by Kavita Gupta, an Indian-origin producer and venture capitalist who sits on the International Emmy Board and has championed Indian talent on international platforms. For the black-tie evening, he wore a custom tuxedo by Italian luxury house Brunello Cucinelli.

The guest list showed the room he had entered. Alongside DiCaprio were Tom Hanks, Timothée Chalamet, Nicole Kidman, Andrew Garfield, Anya Taylor-Joy, Rufus Sewell, Ashley Park, Jessica Williams and Monica Barbaro, with entrepreneurs and fashion figures including Kylie Jenner, Kim Kardashian and Natasha Poonawalla also in attendance. The annual charity gala brings together figures from art, cinema, fashion and business to celebrate the relationship between art and film.

The appearance comes at a moment when Indian cinema is unusually visible in Los Angeles. Just last month, Ramayana: Part One premiered at the Academy Museum’s David Geffen Theatre in the city, and has since become the second-highest-grossing Bollywood release of 2026 in North America — read our North America report here: https://filmverse.in/ramayana-north-america-box-office-2-80-million-usa-opening-day/ Hrithik’s invitation puts a mainstream Indian star inside one of Hollywood’s own cultural institutions, rather than at a Bollywood event staged abroad.

Here is the Filmverse take: a gala invitation is not a film deal, and it would be a stretch to read a casting announcement into it. What it is, is a marker of how the room has changed: LACMA’s Art + Film Gala is where Hollywood’s establishment gathers, and this year that room included, for the first time, a mainstream Indian movie star — hosted by an Indian-origin producer who has spent years pushing Indian talent onto international stages. For diaspora audiences, that is the point: Indian cinema’s Los Angeles moment is no longer confined to premieres of its own films — it is now showing up inside Hollywood’s own calendar, and Hrithik’s black-tie evening is the clearest sign yet.
