Ranabaali Releases Today: Vijay Deverakonda–Rashmika Mandanna’s Period Epic Faces the Box Office Test

Ranabaali, the epic period action drama starring Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna, arrives in theatres worldwide today, October 16, 2026. Directed by Rahul Sankrityan, the Mythri Movie Makers production is mounted as a pan-India release, with the Telugu original joined by dubbed versions.

The film is set in 19th-century South India against the backdrop of the Madras famine of 1876–1878, with Vijay Deverakonda playing the titular warrior Ranabaali and Rashmika Mandanna essaying Jayamma, who stands with him in the resistance against British rule. Arnold Vosloo, best known for The Mummy, plays the antagonist Sir Theodore Hector. The project was cleared for release with a U/A certificate earlier this week.

Advance booking opened two days ahead of release, and trade tracking pegged early collections at roughly Rs 2 crore with over 145,000 tickets sold across 1,600+ shows in the first phase. The US premiere pre-sales crossed $52,000, with Texas leading. Analysts note the film faces a steep climb: it releases barely a day after Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2, and the crowded festive window may split audiences.

For Vijay Deverakonda, the stakes are high after a difficult post-pandemic run — his last outing Kingdom opened at Rs 17 crore net in India (trade estimate). Music is by Ajay–Atul, and the film is presented by T-Series Films.
