Drishyam The Conclusion Show-Sharing Row: Panorama Studios’ Week 3 Demands Put Exhibitors in a Fix
Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam The Conclusion continues its steady run at the box office. The thriller crossed the Rs. 300 crore mark in India on Sunday, October 11, and is now expected to reach Rs. 375 crore at the very least, with an outside chance of entering the coveted Rs. 400 crore club (all figures are trade estimates). It has remained strong even on weekdays.
As a result, its distributors, Panorama Studios, have asked cinemas to ensure the film gets sufficient shows in its third week, starting October 16. Their demands: at least 3 shows in single-screen cinemas, 5 in two-screen theatres, 6 in three-screen cinemas (including 1 morning show), 7 in four-screen multiplexes, 8 in five-screen multiplexes, 10 in six-screen cinemas, and 15 shows in theatres with seven screens or more.
The request has put exhibitors in a dilemma, as several films are lined up for release this week, including Nayyi Navelli, Prahaar, Street Fighter, Jailer 2 and Ranabaali — the last two also releasing in Hindi. All have the potential to attract audiences, so cinemas are negotiating with the distributors of various films to arrive at a consensus.
