Jailer 2 Box Office Day 2: Rajinikanth’s Sequel Races Past Rs 75 Crore Nett in India as Weekend Momentum Builds

Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 is holding strong on its second day in theatres, with live trade estimates suggesting the Nelson Dilipkumar-directed sequel is racing toward the Rs 80 crore nett mark in India by the end of Friday.

As of the noon update on October 16, the film has collected an estimated Rs 23.32 crore nett in India on Day 2 (India gross around Rs 26.82 crore), taking its cumulative two-day India nett to approximately Rs 79.08 crore, per live trade trackers. The film is running at roughly 29.5% occupancy across 12,302 shows in 2,450 theatres, with over 13 lakh tickets sold so far on Friday. Tamil Nadu continues to lead the charge with an estimated Rs 10.78 crore, Chennai being the top-performing city, while overseas markets have contributed around Rs 16.32 crore across 24 countries, putting the Day 2 worldwide gross near Rs 43.14 crore.

The Friday hold comes on the back of a thunderous opening day. Trade estimates put Jailer 2‘s Day 1 at Rs 59.70 crore nett in India and Rs 125.25 crore gross worldwide — the third-biggest worldwide opening day in Tamil cinema history, behind Coolie. Overseas premieres alone contributed an estimated Rs 55 crore gross on Day 1, underlining the franchise’s global pull.

The Telugu version, however, tells a more measured story. Trade sources estimate the Telugu Day 1 at around Rs 15 crore gross — described by trackers as “good but not a super start,” especially given the film’s pre-release business in the Telugu states. All eyes are now on how the Vijay Deverakonda–Rashmika Mandanna starrer Ranabaali, which releases today, affects Jailer 2‘s Telugu run through the weekend.

Notably, Jailer 2 has achieved these numbers with minimal promotions — the film reportedly could not hold a public promotional event, and word of mouth has been mixed from a section of audiences and critics. Yet the Rajinikanth factor has once again asserted itself: the sequel also broke the record for the highest single-hour ticket sales on BookMyShow, surpassing Leo.

With no major releases in Tamil and the Dasara holidays stretching through the weekend, the coming days look promising for the film. The targets are steep in every territory, though, and the weekend trajectory will decide how big a success Jailer 2 ultimately becomes.
