Yo Yo Honey Singh Questioned for Over Two Hours by Maharashtra Cyber Cell in Obscenity Case After Skipping Three Summons

Rapper and singer Yo Yo Honey Singh appeared before the Maharashtra Cyber Cell on Friday, October 16, where he was questioned for more than two hours in connection with a complaint over his alleged objectionable remarks at a concert in Delhi. The 43-year-old singer recorded his statement and left the premises without responding to questions from the media.

The appearance came after weeks of mounting pressure. According to Maharashtra Cyber officials, Honey Singh had been summoned three times earlier but failed to appear, reportedly citing his presence abroad as the reason. He had initially been directed to appear on October 5 but sought additional time; when he then requested that his appearance be pushed to October 22, the investigating agency rejected the request and insisted he appear on October 16. A senior Cyber Cell official had warned that the process to issue a Look Out Circular (LOC) against the singer could be initiated if he skipped the latest summons too. Following that warning, Honey Singh finally turned up at the Maharashtra Cyber nodal office in Cuffe Parade, Mumbai, arriving around 2:55 pm and leaving at approximately 5:30 pm under tight security after recording his statement.

The case stems from a complaint filed by a Mumbai resident who objected to remarks the rapper allegedly made while performing at a concert in Delhi. Acting on the complaint, the Maharashtra Cyber police registered a case and initiated an investigation. Officials have said the matter is still under investigation and more details are awaited; the probe remains open, with further questioning, decisions on the online availability of the disputed material, or additional legal proceedings all possible — though nothing has been confirmed yet.

This is not the singer’s first brush with legal scrutiny over his content. His song “Volume 1” had earlier drawn judicial scrutiny over its lyrics, and reports noted that he later issued a public apology, expressing regret over the language used during the performance. Hindu Shakti Dal and other groups have also filed broader legal challenges related to the controversy, according to reports.

Honey Singh, whose real name is Hirdesh Singh, remains one of Indian pop music’s biggest names, with a career spanning chart-topping Bollywood hits and independent albums. The Cyber Cell’s investigation is ongoing, and the next steps in the case will be closely watched by both the music industry and his large fan base.
