“I Laugh at It!” — Gulshan Devaiah Debunks Wikipedia’s Claim That He Debuted in Salman Khan’s Dil Ne Jise Apna Kahaa
Gulshan Devaiah has some notes for Wikipedia. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama published October 21, days before his film Little Thomas releases on October 23, the actor was asked about a long-standing claim on his Wikipedia page — that he made his debut as a DJ in the 2004 Salman Khan–Preity Zinta–Bhumika Chawla starrer Dil Ne Jise Apna Kahaa.
Bollywood Hungama even revisited the film to check, spotting a DJ in the background of the song “Go Balle Balle” — but the man in the frame did not appear to be Gulshan. Asked directly, the actor cleared it up: “That’s not true. 2011 was my debut year. That Girl In Yellow Boots’ festival screening happened in 2010. However, in 2002, I did an English film called Brides Wanted. I did it when I was in Bengaluru. However, it never got released.”
He is clearly amused rather than annoyed: “Even I have seen the Dil Ne Jise Apna Kahaa mention on my Wikipedia page, and I laugh at it! Hopefully, in the future, Amitabh Bachchan will ask about my debut on KBC (Kaun Banega Crorepati), and both That Girl In Yellow Boots and Dil Ne Jise Apna Kahaa will be among the options.”
In the same interview, Devaiah offered an honest glimpse into how he handles release days. “I don’t even check social media. My job is done, and now it’s up to the audience to decide. This is also a way of self-preservation for me so that I don’t get stressed. It’s human tendency — 100 people would have praised you, but that one negative comment will bother you. You forget that 100 people have said good things.”
Here is the Filmverse take: the Wikipedia error is funny, but it points at a real problem. For character actors without PR machinery, the internet quietly becomes the biography — and errors calcify into “fact” through sheer repetition. Devaiah’s actual arc is far more interesting than the DJ-in-the-background myth: the widely recognised breakthrough in Bejoy Nambiar’s Shaitan (2011), the indie credibility, and the streaming-era reinvention as a standout in Dahaad and Guns & Gulaabs. His KBC joke is the healthiest possible response to a false credit — and a reminder that the most reliable source on an actor’s career is still the actor. He next plays the father in Little Thomas, the 1990s Goa-set family film that arrives in cinemas this Friday, October 23, as Filmverse reported.
