Akka Trailer: Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte Go to War in Netflix’s 1980s Gangster Saga

Netflix has unveiled the official trailer of Akka, its new gangster drama starring Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte — and the two women are on a collision course over a crime empire. The series premieres on Netflix on October 30.

Set in the fictional kingdom of Pernuru in 1980s South India, Akka builds a world where women are the power centre — running the streets, protecting territory and defending a legacy built over generations. Keerthy Suresh plays Bhavani, the formidable ruler of that world; Radhika Apte is Rudra, the ambitious outsider whose arrival threatens to upend the established order. The trailer teases a simmering rivalry over power, loyalty, family and revenge, with the tagline: “Ek karegi raaj, ek karegi naash” (one will rule, one will destroy).

Produced by YRF Entertainment and written and directed by Dharmaraj Shetty, the series also features Tanvi Azmi, Mahesh Manjrekar, Anshuman Pushkar and Monica Panwar. It marks the latest Netflix–YRF Entertainment collaboration, following The Romantics, The Railway Men, Maharaj and Mandala Murders. At the trailer launch in Mumbai, Netflix India series head Tanya Bami revealed that one of the streamer’s office meeting rooms is named after Radhika Apte — prompting the actress to joke that it was her homecoming. Akka is Radhika’s sixth Netflix title, after Lust Stories, Raat Akeli Hai, Monica O My Darling and Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders.

Here is the Filmverse take: Akka is Netflix India’s most calculated genre bet in a while. The female-led gangster drama is having a genuine moment — and doing it in a period setting with two heavyweight performers instead of a metro-crime template gives the series a real chance to stand apart from the crowded crime-thriller shelf. The Keerthy Suresh casting is the interesting strategic play: a Tamil-Telugu star leading a Hindi OTT original widens the show’s natural audience across South markets, where Netflix has been hunting for penetration. And the Radhika Apte homecoming — complete with a meeting room named after her — is the kind of meta-story that does its own marketing. With an October 30 premiere, Akka lands in the Diwali-adjacent streaming window with minimal big-ticket competition. That is not an accident.
