CULT Release: Vishwaksen’s Slasher Gets a Wide October 30 Rollout as Major Distributors Board the Film
Vishwaksen’s CULT is heading for a wide theatrical release on October 30, 2026, and the distribution map shows how seriously the trade is taking it. The makers have brought several established distributors on board across the film’s key markets: Asian Sunil will handle the Nizam region, SVC, led by producer-distributor Dil Raju, takes Vizag, and Suresh Movies covers East and West Godavari. Alankar Prasad distributes in Krishna, Padmavathi Films in Guntur, Tirupathi Prasad in Ceded and Sri Vengamamba Cinemas in Nellore, while Kumar Films manages the Karnataka release in Bengaluru.
CULT is written and directed by Vishwaksen himself, his third film as director after Falaknuma Das and Das Ka Dhamki, and he also plays the lead role. Billed as India’s first slasher thriller, the film traps a group of youngsters inside a Goa estate where a deadly game turns a party into a fight for survival. Vishwaksen plays DSP Sankalp Nayak, a cranky, rule-bending police officer caught in the same nightmare, in a role the trailer pitches as equal parts aggression and dark humour. Gayatri Bharadwaj plays the female lead, with Tarak Ponnappa, Murali Sharma, Srikanth Iyengar, Karthikeya, Anirudh Bhaskar, Yagnya Turlapati, Kabeer Bhartiya, Vishak Nair and Chepuri Vivek in the ensemble. Tharun Bhascker has written the dialogues, Ravi Basrur of KGF fame has composed the music, Aravind Viswanathan has shot the film and Sandeep Kakarala produces under Tarak Cinemas. The film releases in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam.
The trailer, released on October 18, leaned hard into the slasher promise — graphic violence, a locked-in setting and the tagline “Winner, winner, chicken dinner!” — and the distributor line-up now backs that positioning with screens. A strong distribution network does not guarantee an opening, but it guarantees visibility, and for a genre film without a conventional star-driven template, visibility in the opening weekend is everything.
Here is the Filmverse take: CULT is the most interesting gamble of the October 30 weekend because it bets on genre rather than on scale. Telugu cinema has flirted with horror and thriller elements for years, but a full slasher — a genre built on inventive kills and a body count — is genuinely new ground for a mainstream Telugu release. Vishwaksen directing himself as a swaggering cop inside the carnage is a smart hedge: if the slasher mechanics feel unfamiliar, his persona gives the audience something familiar to hold onto. The distributor muscle suggests the trade believes the gamble can travel beyond the genre faithful. Whether audiences agree will be decided by Friday’s word of mouth, not by the trailer’s blood count.
