“Bhairava Returns”: Kalki 2898 AD 2 Unveils Birthday BTS Video as Prabhas Turns 47
The makers of Kalki 2898 AD 2 marked Prabhas’ 47th birthday on October 23 with a special gift for his fans: a behind-the-scenes video announcing that Bhairava is back. The clip, released by Vyjayanthi Movies on their official channels, offers the first glimpse of Prabhas returning to the sets of director Nag Ashwin’s ambitious sequel.
The video — titled “Happy Birthday to our Bhairava” — begins with the production crew preparing the sets before Prabhas steps in, dressed in Bhairava’s signature look, with Ashwin directing him through a scene. Calling him the “Superhero of Indian cinema” and the “Darling of every generation,” the makers wrote: “We are excited to embark on another epic cinematic journey with you… #Kalki2898AD.” The film’s official handle, @Kalki2898AD, carried the same message on social media.
Produced by Ashwini Dutt under the Vyjayanthi Movies banner, the sequel will also see Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan reprise their pivotal roles. The first instalment — a 2024 blockbuster blending Indian mythology with futuristic storytelling — recently added another feather to its cap with two National Film Awards. Per trade reports, the sequel is preparing to enter its regular shooting phase, with the makers hoping to wrap principal photography by mid-2027 and a theatrical release tentatively eyed for 2028.
Here is the Filmverse take: choosing Bhairava — not the film’s titular mythological figure — as the face of the sequel’s first official birthday asset tells you exactly who the makers believe carried the original’s heart. Prabhas’ swaggering, comic, deeply human bounty hunter was the character the masses adopted as their own, and anchoring the sequel’s marketing to him is smart franchise thinking. The birthday-drop strategy also does quiet scheduling work: with Spirit now locked for Diwali 2027 and the sequel’s own shoot gathering pace, Vyjayanthi is signalling that the Kalki universe remains the long game in Prabhas’ slate. The 2028 date is still unofficial, but the footage of Prabhas already back on set in costume suggests the production is further along than the trades had assumed.
