Jailer 2 Box Office Day 4: Rajinikanth’s Sequel Roars Past Rs 425 Crore Worldwide, Becomes 2026’s Biggest Tamil Grosser
Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 has stormed past the Rs 425-crore mark worldwide in just four days, completing an extended opening weekend that cements its place among the biggest theatrical events of 2026.
Trade estimates from Sacnilk, reported by Koimoi and Filmibeat, put the film’s four-day worldwide gross at approximately Rs 425.89 crore. In India, the film collected Rs 199.90 crore nett (Rs 235.89 crore gross), with overseas markets contributing an estimated Rs 190 crore. Cumulative footfalls across India touched around 1.30 crore by the end of the fourth day.
The day-wise India nett breakdown tells the story of a classic blockbuster weekend: the film opened with an estimated Rs 59.70 crore on Thursday, October 15, dipped to Rs 37.10 crore on Friday, recovered to Rs 47.25 crore on Saturday, and surged to Rs 55.85 crore on Sunday — a jump of roughly 18 per cent over Saturday. (All figures are trade estimates.)
With this performance, Jailer 2 has become the fifth Indian film of 2026 to cross the Rs 400-crore worldwide mark, and the highest-grossing Tamil film of the year globally — all within its opening weekend. Trade trackers also note that the film’s Sunday collection registered another near-hundred-crore day at the global box office.
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Kalanithi Maran under the Sun Pictures banner, Jailer 2 is the sequel to Rajinikanth’s 2023 blockbuster Jailer. The superstar returns as retired jailer Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, with Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Mirnaa and Rithvik reprising their roles from the first film. The sequel also stars S. J. Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Vidya Balan, with cameo appearances by Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, Jackie Shroff, Hrithik Roshan, Vijay Sethupathi and Vinayakan. Anirudh Ravichander has composed the music.
The film’s box-office rampage has had knock-on effects across exhibition: theatres in the Hindi belt have been replacing shows of other releases with the Hindi version of Jailer 2 to cope with the demand, and the film has become the first South Indian film to get post-midnight shows in North India in its original Tamil version.
