What to Watch This Weekend: Lokesh Kanagaraj’s DC Arrives on SonyLIV, VisionQuest on JioHotstar

The Tamil action-drama DC has begun its OTT run this weekend, premiering on SonyLIV on October 16 in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada — and it leads a packed streaming lineup for Indian audiences.

Directed by Arun Matheswaran and produced by Sun Pictures (Kalanithi Maran), DC is the gritty reimagining of Devdas as a gangster revenge drama. The film marks filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj’s debut as a lead actor — he plays Devadas, an angry outlaw who takes revenge on corrupt police officers after a farmer is murdered. Wamiqa Gabbi co-stars as Chandra, a woman who has suffered years of exploitation, while Sanjana Krishnamoorthy plays Parvathy, a bar singer who brings Devadas comfort before tragedy strikes. Anirudh Ravichander’s high-energy score has been singled out by critics as one of the film’s biggest strengths.

DC had a successful theatrical run, reportedly crossing the ₹100-crore mark worldwide on a reported ₹25-crore budget, and its trailer was unveiled at the Cannes Film Festival. With Dharma Productions handling the Hindi distribution, the film now reaches a wider North Indian audience on streaming.

Also streaming this weekend: VisionQuest, featuring Paul Bettany as Vision, arrived on JioHotstar on October 13, while Malayalam titles It’s A Medical Miracle and Aasha are among the new regional additions across Zee5, Netflix and ManoramaMAX. Jeet Ki Zid and Enna Vilai round out the weekend slate reported by OTT trackers.

For viewers catching up, DC’s mix of stylised action, Anirudh’s career-best background score and Lokesh Kanagaraj’s confident transition from director to actor has earned largely positive reviews — India Today called it an arresting revenge thriller, while NDTV praised it as a gritty, riveting gangster drama.
