Koffee With Karan Season 9 Trends at No. 1 in India, UK, Canada and Singapore on JioHotstar

Karan Johar’s final season is off to a record start. Hotstar Specials’ Koffee With Karan Season 9 has ranked No. 1 on JioHotstar across India, the UK, Canada and Singapore following its premiere, according to the platform — a strong opening for a show that is bowing out after 22 years.

The premiere broke from the show’s usual format, with Salman Khan taking the couch as its sole guest. In true Salman style, the superstar was disarmingly candid — revealing that he hopes to have children someday, explaining why he keeps his personal life private, and admitting that he shares his bedroom with a mysterious, other-worldly “presence”. He also recalled offering to appear in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai without charging a fee, out of his affection for Yash Johar, who treated him like a son.

The moment that set social media ablaze was the surprise entry of Karisma Kapoor — Salman’s friend and co-star across more than 10 films — who stepped in to host the rapid-fire round. Salman playfully called her his “longest living affair” and recounted a prank from their shooting days that once left her in tears. Their easy chemistry sent fans into a nostalgia spiral, with many calling for the two 90s icons to reunite on screen.

Host and creator Karan Johar said that opening the final season with Salman and Karisma felt like “flipping through an old family album”, and expressed excitement over the viewership in the UK, Canada and Singapore. The premiere also generated wide conversation online, trending in the entertainment category on X and drawing reaction reels, reviews and audience responses on Instagram.

Alok Jain, Head of Hindi and English Entertainment Business (Streaming, TV & Studios) at JioStar, called the show “a powerful example of what a homegrown IP can achieve when it stays true to its voice”, adding that its opening performance reaffirmed the belief that strong, culturally rooted franchises travel across markets.

Season 9 also marks a milestone partnership — it is The Peacock Hub’s first Indian collaboration, and the first time NBCUniversal and JioHotstar have come together on a homegrown show. New episodes release every Wednesday at 7 PM, with the final season bringing the curtain down on a chat show that has run for eight seasons and 161 episodes since 2004.
