Devi Sri Prasad’s Yellamma Locks March 5, 2027 Release Date; Rockstar DSP’s Acting Debut as Parshi Gets a Dussehra Announcement
Music director Devi Sri Prasad’s acting debut now has a date on the calendar. The makers of Yellamma announced on the occasion of Dussehra that the film will arrive in cinemas worldwide on March 5, 2027, locking one of the most intriguing debuts in recent South Indian cinema into a firm release slot.
The announcement was made by Sri Venkateswara Creations on social media: “A powerful story emerging from the roots of our land, ready to find its voice across the nation! #Yellamma ~ Grand Worldwide Theatrical Release on MARCH 5th, 2027! In Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada & Malayalam.”
Popularly known as Rockstar DSP, Devi Sri Prasad is one of the leading music directors in South Indian cinema, with chart-topping soundtracks across Telugu, Tamil and Hindi films. In Yellamma, he makes his debut as a lead actor playing the character Parshi — and he is pulling double duty, composing the film’s music as well. The makers have promised that audiences will see a completely new side of him on the big screen, describing his character as deeply rooted in the story.
The first-look poster, unveiled earlier on DSP’s birthday, introduced Parshi in a strikingly simple, natural avatar — dressed in everyday clothes, holding a crown, radiating a warmth and groundedness rarely seen in contemporary first-look posters. The understated reveal stood out precisely because it resisted the larger-than-life mass-poster template, and it was received with encouraging responses from audiences.
Directing the film is Venu Yeldandi, who shot to fame with Balagam — a rooted, widely appreciated drama that won several awards and earned him accolades. His debut was set in a Telangana village, and with Yellamma he is returning to a similar storytelling space: a rustic, emotional narrative steeped in rural life and cultural values. The film is presented by Dil Raju and produced by Shirish under the Sri Venkateswara Creations banner, with shooting currently underway.
While the makers have not officially announced the female lead, reports suggest that Ananthika Sanilkumar, who gained recognition with 8 Vasanthalu, will play the part. T-Series has bagged the music rights for the film.
Beyond Yellamma, Devi Sri Prasad remains one of the busiest composers in the industry — he is also composing the music for Nagarjuna’s prestigious 100th film, King100. But all eyes will be on March 5, 2027, when the man behind some of Indian cinema’s biggest musical hits steps in front of the camera as a leading man for the first time.
