Prahaar Box Office Day 5: Rajkummar Rao’s Courtroom Drama Jumps 65% on Tuesday, Nears Rs 15 Crore Net in India

Rajkummar Rao’s courtroom drama Prahaar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam has found its footing in the crowded Dussehra box-office race. After a soft Monday, the film bounced back strongly on Tuesday — its fifth day in cinemas — collecting an estimated Rs 3.30 crore net in India, up nearly 65% from the previous day.

The Dussehra holiday clearly lifted the film’s fortunes. With Tuesday’s numbers in, Prahaar’s India net collection stands at approximately Rs 14.45 crore, inching closer to the Rs 15 crore mark. The India gross collection has reached Rs 17.21 crore, while the overseas markets contributed Rs 2.30 crore gross, taking the worldwide gross to Rs 19.51 crore in five days.

The day-wise India net breakup tells the story of a film riding the festive wave: the film opened at Rs 2.35 crore on Friday, grew to Rs 3.15 crore on Saturday and Rs 3.65 crore on Sunday, dipped to Rs 2 crore on Monday, and then rebounded to Rs 3.30 crore on Tuesday. The film played across 3,294 shows on Tuesday with occupancy rising to around 24% — a healthy sign for a serious, dialogue-driven drama.

The recovery is notable because Prahaar is competing for screens and audiences with heavyweights: Yami Gautam’s Nayyi Navelli, Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam 3: The Conclusion and Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 all released in the same festive window. Holding its own in that company, and posting the biggest single-day jump of its run so far on a weekday, suggests the film is finding its audience through word of mouth.

Prahaar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam is a courtroom drama based on the life of public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam, who rose to national prominence for handling several high-profile criminal cases — most notably the prosecution of Ajmal Kasab, the lone surviving terrorist of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks. The film is directed by Avinash Arun and produced by Dinesh Vijan under the Maddock Films banner. Alongside Rajkummar Rao in the title role, the ensemble cast includes Wamiqa Gabbi as the female lead, with Lalit Prabhakar, Ashish Vidyarthi, Jaideep Ahlawat and Sikandar Kher in key roles.

The coming days will test whether the Dussehra momentum can carry the film through its first full week. With no major Hindi releases until October 23, Prahaar has a clear window to consolidate — and the Rs 20 crore India net milestone is now firmly within sight.

Note: All box-office figures are trade estimates and may be revised as official data comes in.
