Prahaar Early Reviews Call Rajkummar Rao’s Performance “The Soul” of the Ujjwal Nikam Biopic

Rajkummar Rao’s courtroom drama Prahaar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam is still two days from release, but early reactions are already trending. According to viral social-media reviews, the Maddock Films production has earned a 5-star early rating, with viewers singling out Rao’s performance as the film’s beating heart.

One viewer praised Wamiqa Gabbi, Rajkummar Rao and Jaideep Ahlawat in a post that has since gone viral, saying Rao’s acting is “the soul of the movie” and calling Gabbi’s performance “shandaar.”

Directed by Avinash Arun, the film is a biopic on celebrated public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam, centred on the legal battle following the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, including the trial of lone surviving attacker Ajmal Kasab. The ensemble includes Rajkummar Rao, Wamiqa Gabbi, Jaideep Ahlawat, Sikandar Kher, Ashish Vidyarthi, Lalit Prabhakar and Ritvik Sahore.

At a recent industry conclave, Rao said he studied Nikam’s courtroom videos to capture his voice, physicality and mannerisms, and gained weight to play the character across ages. The film marks his fifth biopic after Shahid, Omerta, Srikanth and Bose: Dead/Alive.

The trailer was launched at Mumbai’s CSMT station in the presence of Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis and Nikam himself. Prahaar releases in cinemas worldwide on October 16.
