8 Years of Tumbbad: Sohum Shah Launches Official Merchandise, Sequel Eyes 2027 Release

The folk-horror classic Tumbbad has completed eight years since its release, and producer-star Sohum Shah is celebrating the milestone in style. Marking the film’s 8th anniversary, Sohum has launched official Tumbbad merchandise ahead of Halloween 2026, tapping into the film’s cult following — while the much-awaited sequel remains on track for a 2027 release.

Reflecting on the journey, Sohum described the role of Vinayak Rao as a dream role, saying he will “always be as greedy as Hastar for more roles like this” — a nod to the film’s cursed deity. The anniversary also drew a playful tribute from Alia Bhatt, who sported the film’s iconic eye mask on the occasion, prompting a warm response from Sohum himself.

Directed by Rahi Anil Barve and produced by Sohum Shah Films alongside Aanand L Rai’s Colour Yellow Productions, Tumbbad released in October 2018 and went on to earn a devoted following for its atmospheric storytelling, cinematography and the menacing presence of Hastar, the demon god of greed.
