Nana Patekar to Be Cremated With Full State Honours at Pune Farmhouse Today
Maharashtra is giving Nana Patekar the farewell his five-decade career earned. The veteran actor, who passed away on Thursday at 75 after a cardiac arrest at his Goa residence, will be cremated with full state honours at his farmhouse in Donje village near Pune on Thursday evening.
The decision was announced by Maharashtra Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar, honouring Patekar’s "unparalleled contribution" to Marathi theatre and Marathi and Hindi cinema. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis personally spoke with the actor’s son Malhar, assuring the family of the government’s full support.
According to reports, Patekar messaged a close friend at 2:30 AM saying he felt unwell. He was found unconscious at 4 AM and rushed to Manipal Hospital, where doctors tried to revive him with 45 minutes of CPR but could not save him. His mortal remains were to be taken to Goa Medical College before being transported to Maharashtra, with the cremation set for around 4 PM.
Tributes continued through the day. Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised his "intensity, individuality and unmistakable presence", while Amitabh Bachchan, Rajinikanth, President Droupadi Murmu, Sunny Deol and Akshay Kumar were among those who condoled the loss.
