Ramayana: Part 1 Trailer Out — Ranbir Kapoor’s Epic Eyes Diwali 2026 as Countdown Begins

The most ambitious film in Indian cinema history just got real. The official trailer of Ramayana: Part 1 is out, and with it, the countdown has officially begun for Nitesh Tiwari’s two-part epic, slated for release in cinemas on November 5, 2026, timed for Diwali.

The trailer promises exactly what the film has been selling from day one: scale. Breathtaking visuals, world-class VFX, and a cast that reads like a roll call of Indian stardom — all in service of the timeless epic, presented, as the makers put it, not just as entertainment but as “the beginning of a timeless legacy.”

The cast of a generation

Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama. Sai Pallavi as Sita. Yash as Ravana. Sunny Deol as Hanuman. Ravi Dubey as Lakshman. The ensemble also features Arun Govil, Lara Dutta and Kunal Kapoor in key roles.

A truly global production

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari (Dangal, Chhichhore), Ramayana is produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios in collaboration with Oscar-winning VFX house DNEG and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations. The music is a historic collaboration between Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman. Sony Pictures will distribute the film globally (outside India), Dharma Productions handles the Hindi-speaking market, and the film is planned for a worldwide IMAX release in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. Part 2 follows in Diwali 2027.

Birthday BTS and a red-carpet storm

The trailer landed amid a flurry of activity around the film. On September 28, the makers unveiled a behind-the-scenes glimpse of Ranbir Kapoor’s transformation into Rama to mark the actor’s birthday — in which he reflected on the weight of the role: “It is not that I’ve been offered a film, the role is exciting… It is a responsibility.” Sai Pallavi, watching Rama come to life, said she was awestruck, recalling the image of Rama from her childhood.

The film also made headlines when American YouTuber MrBeast attended a Ramayana red-carpet event in India, posing with Ranbir, Sai Pallavi, director Tiwari and producer Malhotra — though the event itself courted controversy after a long delay left sections of the media fuming.

With the trailer now in the wild and Diwali barely a month away, the question isn’t whether Ramayana will open big — it’s whether any film has ever carried this much expectation into a festive release.
