OMG 2 tells the tale of a father’s struggle to protect his son. Kanti Sharan Mugdal (portrayed by Pankaj Tripathi) resides in Mahakaal Nagri and operates a shop selling religious items within the temple complex. Living nearby are his wife Indumati, son Vivek (played by Aarush Verma), and daughter Damyanti. Their lives are smooth sailing until one day when Vivek is admitted to the hospital due to an overdose of Viagra. Initially, Kanti keeps this news hidden from Indumati and Damyanti. However, things take a turn when a video of Vivek masturbating in the school restroom goes viral. The school principal, Atal Nath Maheswari (played by Arun Govil), decides to expel Vivek for his “indecent” behavior. Advised to leave town and maintain a low profile for some time, Kanti, along with his family, faces a crucial moment as Lord Shiva dispatches his messenger (portrayed by Akshay Kumar) to assist Kanti in fighting for his son. The remainder of the film explores the events that unfold.
Amit Rai’s narrative is remarkable and timely. The screenplay crafted by Amit Rai is captivating. He has infused the movie with numerous engaging and provocative scenes. Furthermore, the manner in which he has seamlessly integrated the significance of sexual education with spirituality is truly astonishing. Amit Rai’s dialogue writing is incisive and deserves applause.
Amit Rai’s direction exhibits simplicity, as he effectively maintains an uncomplicated narrative while fearlessly addressing taboo subjects. The commendable aspect lies in the way Kanti discovers his son’s predicament. The implementation of flashbacks proves to be successful. The film truly escalates to another level when the courtroom drama ensues. Notably, certain scenes stand out, such as the interrogation of Indumati and Damyanti by Kamini (portrayed by Yami Gautam Dhar), as well as the scene involving the sex worker. Numerous issues are intelligently tackled without appearing preachy. The finale leaves a strong impact on the audience.
Pankaj Tripathi delivers an exceptional performance, captivating the audience with his comedic gestures and leaving a lasting impression with his thought-provoking soliloquies. Unfortunately, Akshay Kumar’s screen time is limited, but he manages to make a significant impact. His charismatic appearance and exemplary acting skills are commendable. Yami Gautam Dhar surprises viewers with her portrayal of a role never seen before. Aarush Verma portrays his character with confidence, while Arun Govil and Govind Namdev (as the priest) prove to be reliable actors. Brijendra Kala’s portrayal of Dr. Gagan Malviya is also noteworthy. Pavan Malhotra’s role as Judge Purushottam Nagar is the film’s pleasant surprise. The actors depicting Dr. B D Shah, the medical shop owner, and Pranlal Mutho also deliver fine performances.
OMG 2 is an audacious, impactful, forward-thinking film that delicately tackles sensitive subjects, showcasing exceptional performances as its unique selling point. The film’s potential at the box office may be significantly affected by its ‘Adults only’ rating and the competition from GADAR 2. To garner a substantial audience, positive word-of-mouth will be crucial. This movie is highly recommended for both children and parents alike.
OMG 2 teaches how a film can be entertaining along with social relevance and educative. It brings all the logic and laughter of filmmaking together. The A rating seems forced, the certification body seems to be under pressure and have not taken a well judicial decision. Our recommendation, watch with family; it is interesting, it is entertaining, it is socially relevant. A must watch, all different from the loud and illogical pan India films.
Our Rating: 4/5
