Year 2023, Bollywood has seen many Festivals, more to Come
Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan got the year off to a great start. Its success was at first seen as a surprise for 2023, but Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani brought families back to the movies. Then came a string of movies that did very well at the box office, including Gadar 2, Dream Girl 2, and Jawan, which broke all kinds of records.
With such great collections, the film business is having a great time in the third quarter of 2023, from July to September. This is after a rough start to its return to its former glory.
Many directors got inspired again during this time, and moviegoers fell in love with movies all over again. On July 28, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani came out and made over 150 crores at the box office. This was the first movie of the third quarter. Then, on August 11, Gadar 2 and OMG 2 came out and made over 500 crores and 135 crores, respectively. The movie Dream Girl 2, which came out on August 25, made more than 100 crores. Jawan, which came out on September 7, has already made over 420 crores in just eleven days and is doing well at the box office.
This year, the film trade is very optimistic about the movie theater business. Film and Trade experts say that this year’s movie ticket sales could bring in around Rs 12,000 crores This is more than the pre-COVID high. This is seen possible because of multiple films that connect with people and translate well across languages and then higher ticket prices. The above figures are only about the theater business in India, it does not include the business figures from the Hindi movies watched outside India in international markets.
Next Salman Khan is coming back with Tiger 3, Akshay Kumar is back with Mission Raniganj, and Shah Rukh Khan is returning with Rajkumar Hirani’s Dunki in December. This makes the last quarter of 2023 look even better for Bollywood. The third movie in the successful Fukrey series is set to come out on September 28. It should be a good way to end the quarter. Around 12,000 crores have already been made in the third quarter, making it clear that this has been Bollywood’s best quarter of 2023. The trust in Bollywood is back again else there were talks before the release of Pathaan that Bollywood is over, and people aren’t going to the movies anymore. Now, everyone is looking forward to the last three months of the year to end 2023 with a bang. Dono, Mission Raniganj, Thank You For Coming, Yaariyan 2, Ganpath, Tejas, Tiger 3, Emergency, Animal, Sam Bahadur, Yodha, Merry Christmas, and Dunki are just a few of the great movies coming out in the next three months.
Even movies from Hollywood and Other Indian regions have done well this year. Films like Barbie, Oppenheimer, Equalizer 3, Fast X, Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3, John Wick 4, and Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning, kept the box office numbers ringing with impressive collections. Jailer, PS 2, Varisu, Carry on Jatta 3, and Baipan Bhari Deva were some of the other great films in India’s regional space. The distributors are happy, with July and August making more than Rs 2000 crore, and they expect even bigger numbers in the months to come.
There is a lot of good news in the movie business right now, yet the next three months will be very important, and it is to be seen whether the quarter 3 success story continues n quarter 4. Right now Bollywood is in a good spot, and the next few months are expected to be encouraging with the upcoming movies Animal, Tiger 3, and Dunki. All of these movies together are worth about 2500 crores. We’re back to the times before COVID. The collections for Gadar 2, Pathaan, and Jawan are the best we’ve ever seen. There isn’t a trend in recent months and all kinds of movies have done very well at the box office. Also as there are more hits in theaters this year, the satellite rights market should also get stronger.
Shah Rukh Khan said in a press conference that we started with Pathaan on January 26 and Jawan on Janmashtami, and we’ll end the year with Dunki on Christmas. He further said, “It’s always Eid when my movies come out in theaters”, well its quite true and let’s see if Christmas is next Eid.
