Akelli Movie Review: Nushrratt Bharuccha’s intense survival-thriller will send shivers down your spine.

Akelli Movie Plot:
Jyoti, portrayed by Nushrratt Bharuccha, is facing a desperate situation. She urgently needs money to repay her family’s debts and support her loved ones, especially after her parents tragically passed away in a devastating accident in Kedarnath. With hopes of finding employment in Muscat, Oman, Jyoti is faced with a hurdle – she lacks the necessary funds to pay the initial deposit required by the agent. However, through some stroke of luck, the agent manages to secure a job opportunity for her at a clothing factory in Mosul, Iraq, an opportunity she can afford with the limited resources she has managed to gather.
Despite being aware of the challenging political climate in Iraq, Jyoti makes the bold decision to embrace this employment opportunity. It is during her time at the factory that she forms a friendship with a kind-hearted gentleman named Rafeeq, played by Nishant Dahiya. However, her life takes an unexpected turn as she finds herself in a war-torn land, far from the familiarity of her homeland. Though determined to return to India, circumstances prevent her from doing so.
The following day, the factory falls victim to a hijacking orchestrated by a terrorist group, leaving Jyoti and her fellow workers as hostages. What unfolds is a gripping tale that showcases Jyoti’s courageous battle against the terrorists in an unfamiliar country, where even basic survival becomes an arduous struggle.
What is Good:
Akelli is an incredible survival story that will give you literal chills. This gritty thriller-drama has a captivating narrative and a strong focal point that will keep viewers hooked. The direction by Pranay Meshram is solid, and the raw treatment of the story makes it even more spine-chilling. The cinematography and camera work are top-notch. The songs in the first half are enjoyable to listen to, and the background music effectively enhances the overall viewing experience.
What is Not Good:
Akelli falls short in fully utilizing the established conventions of a survival story in a highly hostile environment and fails to convey the true impact of war on humanity through its narrative. Instead, the film presents a simple story of an innocent individual caught in a battle she stumbled upon unintentionally.
Nushrratt Bharuccha, as the damsel being pursued by terrorists, fluctuates between displaying vulnerability like a scaredy-cat and showcasing determination with a serious expression. However, she doesn’t quite manage to elevate her performance to a level that would have transformed it from merely competent to truly memorable.
Akelli Movie Star Performances:
Nushrratt Bharuccha gets a great chance to show off her acting skills in the movie. Nushrratt, a skilled actress, showcases her exceptional talent in a gripping performance, as she courageously battles against all odds to single-handedly keep Akelli from sinking. Tsahi Halevi, known for his role in the popular Israeli series Fauda, gives a decent performance as Assad, creating a creepy vibe. However, it would have been better if the film’s writer had given his character more depth. Nishant Dahiya, playing the role of Rafeeq, manages to leave a lasting impression on the audience, even with his short appearance.

Akelli is a finely crafted survival thriller-drama that could benefit from some slight editing. The movie is full of spine-tingling suspense, heart-wrenching moments, and genuine emotion.
